ALICE TOWN, BIMINI—OCTOBER 15, 2010— What does Bimini have in common with Alberta, Canada? Karen Bond, winner of the “Name That Boat” contest!
We can’t imagine anyone more deserving than one of our northern neighbors looking to trade a couple bitter cold winter days for a balmy two day, two-tank all expenses paid diving excursion at the Big Game Club”, noted Neal Watson in announcing the winning dive boat name “Bimini Blue”.
By a very slim 6 vote margin, Bimini Blue beat out Outlook Explorer, with Dive Guy and Outpost Diver rounding out the competition. “Since it wouldn’t have been much of a contest without these great names to consider, we’ve decided that Penny Shea, Joshua Royal and our very own Outpost President, Mark Ellert, be recognized for their sportsmanship, and to each, they will receive a complimentary two-tank dive on their first outing on Bimini Blue”, added Guy Harvey.
Mr. Ellert’s prize is being donated to the local Bimini elementary school, for the school to use as an award for academic excellence.
“We had a tremendous number of entries for this “name-the-boat contest,” said dive legend Neal Watson, who with Guy Harvey recently announced plans to launch the Dive Bimini operation at the Big Game Club. “It was a tight race to the end among the four finalists, with a number of changes in the standings as voting continued.”
Bimini Blue— a name that divers from around the world will immediately recognize and come to symbolize the most famed dive boat in all of the Bahamas— is truly unique to the area, only of two boats of its type in existence. The glass bottom, double-decker is certified for 100 passengers and will soon be on property.
Earlier this week, Bimini’s famed Atlantis Road was voted the top dive experience in the world by AOL users. “So now everyone’s a winner. Nothing in Bimini will come close to offering the comfort and safety that Dive Bimini guests will enjoy, never mind the chance that Neal or Guy might be on board diving with you,” said Mark Ellert, President of Guy Harvey Outposts. When you’re diving on the world’s best dive site, we want our customer to have a world-class experience – that’s the Guy Harvey Outpost DNA.”
