Celebrate National Fishing & Boating Week with Guy Harvey Outpost
National Fishing & Boating Week June 3-11 showcases the importance of recreational fishing and boating to the U.S. economy — and to the nation’s overall well-being. There’s no better cure for stress and overwork than getting out on the water for a few hours — or every day! And perhaps the best place to do this is in Florida– the fishing capital of the world– where excellent weather and abundant angling opportunities can be found just about anywhere.
The state of Florida is making it even easier for residents and visitors to wet a line by declaring license-free fishing days this coming week. Saltwater anglers do not need to possess a fishing license to catch dinner from the ocean June 3-4, and freshwater anglers plying lakes, streams and rivers get the same break June 10-11. Of course, all size and bag limits and closed seasons still apply. Visit myfwc.com for more information.
A fun way to hone your angling skills is to compete in a family- friendly fishing tournament, and several are on tap near Guy Harvey Outposts for National Fishing & Boating Week. Here’s a sampling:
ISLAMORADA
Skippers Dockside Restaurant in Key Largo will present the third annual Skippers Dolphin Tournament June 2-4 where everyone is invited to fish–including captains and mates. More than $50,000 in cash and prizes will be given out for the heaviest combined weight of three fish caught by the top six teams. For more information, visit www.skipperstournaments.com.
The Florida Keys Elks Lodge in Islamorada will host the fifth annual Ladies Dolphin Tournament June 9-10.
