Calling All Young Photographers!
Guy Harvey Resort to Host Youth Photography Workshop
St. Augustine Camera Club (SACC), in cooperation with the Guy Harvey Resorts St. Augustine Beach, announces a Youth Photography Workshop for June 25-29, 2018. The workshop will be held at the new Guy Harvey Resort on Anastasia Island.
This workshop is designed to give youngsters the fundamental techniques of photography. The students will learn – on DSLR cameras provided by Canon – how to manage exposure, focus and composition. They will learn the basics of how to download and process the photos. The instructor will be Ed Beckett, award-winning graphic design teacher at Flagler Palm Coast High School. Class will be held from 8:30 am – 1pm daily, with the afternoon reserved for assignments. Cost for the five-day program is $200. Limited scholarships are available.
The presence of imagery in everyday life is a simple fact – it is a powerful tool of communication able to prompt an instant reaction and convey a large amount of information. Powerful photography can be an art form, but it can also be a language to persuade, amuse or inform. As an activity, photography ticks all the boxes to engage young people. Accessible, yielding instant results, it also has the allure of gadgetry. Learning photography as an art form, or using it to explore a subject or issue, can help young people gain critical skills and open up new levels of meaning and interest in the visual media encountered every day. It is a skill that will come in handy in many fields of study and work.
If you know of youngsters’ ages 12-17 that might benefit from this program, consider sponsoring them (tax-deductible contribution), or recommend the workshop to them. In addition to scholarships from SACC and Guy Harvey Resorts, the Alligator Farm Zoological Park and Florida’s Birding and Photo Fest are each sponsoring a student. Interested students need to submit a short essay – three or four paragraphs – about why they want to improve their photography skills.
Registration and scholarship information are available through the SACC web site at https://www.saintaugustinecameraclub.com/youth-summer-workshop.html
