ALICE TOWN, BIMINI—MAY 6, 2011—A group of private pilots will set their bearings for Bimini this June for a fly-in event sponsored by PilotMall.com Aviation Superstore. Host hotel is the legendary Guy Harvey Big Game Club Outpost in Alice Town.
The fly-in, according to Neil Glazer, who founded the Aviation Superstore, PilotMall.com in 1999, will be the start of The Bahamas Pilot Challenge, a competition developed by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism to have pilots visit 12 of the 20 Airports of Entry in the Bahamas.
The Bahamas is an archipelago of 700 islands sweeping across 500 miles of open ocean. Considered “The Gateway to the Bahamas” from the U.S., Bimini is a mere 50 miles due east of Miami.
Glazer said the Bimini fly-in is scheduled for June 10-12.
“We chose Bimini as the first island in this challenge because it’s so close and there are so many things to do,” he said. “We recently visited the Big Game Club and were very impressed with what Dr. Harvey and his team have done to the property. Backcountry and bluewater fishing and diving, along with evenings aboard their 100-passenger, glass bottom dive boat are great activities for this group. We’re especially looking forward to the dolphin experience and to visit the world famous Shark Lab along with visits to local points of interest, including the Bimini museum.”
